Talent Journey [Challenge]

by Francesco Marzullo, Antonio Torre, Francesco Casillo

Before to start with the description and analysis of our challenge, we would like to introduce some concepts and definitions used in this paper in order to facilitate the understanding.

Like A Coffee (LAC): community of people in ICT sector which has among its objectives the growth and creating new opportunities for its members in a Human Oriented Environment.

Talent: an IT student close to complete his study path(or fresh graduate) which get in touch with LAC to start his new path in the working world.

Mentor: a senior LAC member which has the task of following Talents from technical point of view

Talent Manager (TM): a LAC member which has the task of following Talents from no technical point of view, eg: administrative, motivational, communicative, etc.

Talent Journey: it’s the journey made by a Talent from being a student to being ready for a customer project(Junior)

Talent Management System(TMS): (still in progress) it is an internal tool used by LAC to manage and monitor talents activities.

Data science research project

Our data science team is continuing its journey with elearning courses on the languages and approaches to use and with continuous comparisons with mentors.

Challenges will soon begin in which they will measure themselves with the first applications

This video tells the story of the first period of training and research activities of the Data Science working group of Like a Coffee

The research projects in which we involve the Talents who approach our community have the primary objective of making us grow

To learn
to experiment
and to share the new knowledge acquired within our community

This is a very short video that we shot during one of our work sessions at Palazzo Innovazione

The members of the research team of this Data Science project are:
Francesco Casillo Francesco Marzullo Pasquale Scudieri Luigi Cutolo Antonio Torre e Giuseppe Jepis Rivello

The new talent Francesco, Pasquale and Francesco coming from Università degli Studi di Salerno Dipartimento di Informatica, Università di Salerno

Talent Management System developed by Talents for Talents

Hi everyone!

We are back to resume the thread of our internal application Talent to Expert Journey (T2EJ) story.

This time our Junior developers from Liepaja, Latvia will be on stage, taking over the “story marathon” and telling you about their developing experience from a technical side.
The speech will be about the challenges faced, the bottlenecks overcome, the learnings acquired and the solutions found by the team.

Let’s welcome the team members Aija Lagzdina, Janis PavlovsEmils Pukis, Ulvis Priedulis and their mentor Janos Ujvari on our YT channel on 10th May at 5 pm (CET).

PRESO TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT SPEECH

Last week we rolled out a live streaming from our Youtube channel to share the knowledge gained in the Preso experimental project with the whole Like A Coffee community.

For those of you who missed it, Preso is an IoT smart outlet that allows you to control any of your plugged-in household devices performance and to monitor your home power consumption directly from your smart PresoApp.

Why can it be important for you, potential talent, to get to know something more on how we carried out this project development?

  • First of all, because you can exclusively take a look behind the scenes on how we actually dealt with such a complex research project effectively in a remote way within a cross-cultural environment.
  • Secondly, because you can get insights on how such a project was managed.
  • And, finally, because you can get an educational opportunity for free by means of an interactive lesson. You can actively take part in the discussion by commenting or by asking questions to the expert panel in real time and being answered right away.

Preso is one of our experimental projects in IoT where some of our talents played a great role in, both on a software – and on a development part.

As the video begins, Filomena gives the big picture on it to you, tuned-in community, and introduces three members of the Preso dev team who dealt with different development aspect of it:

Attilio, IoT specialist and Head of “Steam Port, IoT lab” situated in Southern Italy, who showed more in detail:

  • the hardware components Preso is made up of;
  • the software technologies used for its prototyping;
  • the communication protocols used in the various iterations;
  • the data collecting system.

Giuseppe, Talent Full Stack web developer, involved in Preso as experimental project, who explained to our community:

  • The whole architecture system of the PresoApp, namely DB, a focus both on IoT back-end and main back-end and one on the front-end;
  • The full stack technology used.

Emils, Talent Front-end web developer and involved in the project as IT project manager intern who shared with us his experience with respect to:

  • how he integrated later in a running software development project within a remote team;
  • the messaging applications used;
  • The tools to handle a the workflow, the common code versioning and the mock-ups prototyping, in cooperation with our designer Giuseppe.

It goes without saying that also other worth-mentioning team members actively worked on this project: our tireless mentors Antonio and János and our Talent Luigi.

Because Together Everyone Achieves More.

Take the journey to get aboard our community!

What’s in it for you in Like A Coffee?

When you are a fresh graduate your priority looks to be the experience gaining since tackling the world of work is no easy challenge for a talent to unleash his or her full potential.

But without a proper framework to act in, the sole work experience could not suffice.

A custom-designed learning path whose purpose is to turn you from a talent into an ICT junior expert could be a great opportunity to take and a safe way to accelerate your know-how and get to your professional goal quickly.

Here is a short video on how we have designed this learning path:

What matters and tops it off is the opportunity to develop organization skills which come in handy when it is about setting up both daily and weekly purposes, prioritizing activities and tasks, implementing procedures, monitoring your milestones and, ultimately, achieving your goals.

Do you think you are able to manage your own time?

Let’s hear what the development team members from Liepaja (Latvia) think about the opportunity to join Like A Coffee in order to improve their self-discipline so as to achieve the goals they have set beforehand:

Upskilling is no quick task if you are not supported by a larger community made up both by peers and seniors. The interactions which occur daily can take you further than you might think, while you see yourself becoming more and more flexible by acquiring the right mindset to work on European IT projects by means of state-of-art technologies.

Let’s listen to Giuseppe’s experience:

Behind every project there is a whole community involved.

Not just development side but also management and communication sides play a significant role. This makes the experience of each of you, young talents, enriching.

The core of the self-development for you lies, no doubt, in the relationship with the mentor/senior developer who provides guidance and support and instills in you so many values  that you can take them to heart in your toolbox.

Let’s see what Luigi thinks about his relationship with his mentor and with the whole community:

The human-centric relationship is in the middle of our true collaborative environment.

Your self-education later  becomes a multiplier of good practices for all of us and, ultimately, for your profession.

Why don’t you seize the moment and get aboard our community?
