Luigi Cutolo / my thesis in DevOps Testing / Talent-Mentor Conversation [part 2]

Over the past year we have followed our talent Luigi Cutolo along his journey to fulfil his dream of becoming a web developer within the Like A Coffee community.

We were there during his experimental project development, the choice of his thesis topic, and in his overall learning path.

Last December Luigi earned his bachelor’s degree in Information Technology.

Follow the presentation delivered by Luigi Cutolo regarding his thesis topic, introduced by his mentor Antonio Torre in the video below: Implementation and Testing of a Microservices Architecture on the Preso project by using the DevOps methodology.

Over the past few months he created the whole infrastructure to be implemented, and then tested and deployed a microservice.

Here some technical specifications: Microservice: NodeJS Application.

Testing: Unit Testing,

Integration Testing and End to End Testing.

Build: Docker Cloud.

Deploy: AWS EC2

Today he is here to tell us how he accomplished his path with us.

His mentor – and Senior developer – Antonio Torre is still by his side in order to support Luigi in his professional growth and to turn him into an expert developer of our community.

If you missed the beginning of Luigi’s thesis path on DevOps testing, here below you can find it:

Now, it’s really time for Luigi to unlock his future!

Like A Coffee meets the University of Salerno

Every time companies and young talent meet is an asset entailing food for thought on the future as well as on the existing opportunities, and the ones yet to come.

The opportunities for students to get in contact with the real and practical world of work increase steeply, thanks to the technical skills acquired during their learning paths.

Last 8th November we met IT students and some professors of the Faculty of Information Technology at the Università di Salerno.

During the first part of the lecture we focused on innovative ecosystems and on the working model of the Like A Coffee community. The core of our presentation has been mainly the Talent to Expert Journey with a specific focus on the mentoring activities and on the experimental projects we are currently developing with the talents who are working along us right now.

Professor Vittorio Scarano, who kindly hosted us and is also responsible for the outgoing students guidance, granted us a brief interview at the end of our lecture where he shared his impressions.

Accelerate your talent within the Like a Coffee community

Innovation ecosystem and community

The sharing strategy to generate opportunities.

In this rapidly changing age where work is the output of multiple minds, we are moving towards the creation of an ecosystem which involves the smartest people for them to be an asset and to add value to the organization.

Innovation to be truly open needs a community environment which is more and more able to generate common visions and opportunities.

Community Like a Coffee

Its founding principles.

We are the result of different experiences, different personal stories, different educational and professional paths. Web and mobile development, design, IoT, Industry 4.0, mobile and design thinking, social recruiting are some of the present themes within the Like A Coffee community, just to name a few.

Our goal is to gather the different competencies to find innovative solutions to smarten people’s lives.

Mentoring Approach

Grow your know-how thanks to the support of the community.

The mentoring work within the Like A Coffee community is carried out passionately towards the talent coming from the universities. As an example, in the following video Antonio Torre, one of our mentors, explains our approach.

For the talent accessing the Like A Coffee community, professional growth means learning by doing and by working on our projects to apply his or her university knowledge and, at the same time, to implement the acquired eLearning knowledge during the Like A Coffee “Talent to Expert Journey”.

Projects can be experimental, as the Preso project where Giuseppe, as a new talent, is currently working on its mobile app development which goes hand in hand with the IoT device.

Growth means also developing a final thesis together with a concrete project which could turn out to be useful for the talent professional process.

This is the case of Luigi Cutolo, who is about to graduate in Information Technology at the University of Salerno.

Talent to Expert journey

The importance of the learning journey to deal with the practical world of work

When the talent is about to graduate or has just graduated, he or she generally does not feel he or she has the necessary practical experience to face the present world of work. The Like A Coffee community is active to this end by supporting the young talent during his or her professional growth process by means of a dedicated learning path in order to help him or her become an expert developer to work on customer projects on an international scale.

On 8th November we will be at the Università di Salerno where Professor Vittorio Scarano hosts us to present the Like A Coffee community and the projects we are currently carrying out.

How has the project evolved over time? [VIDEO]

The project has gone a long way from its original version.

We started with a series of case prototypes, believe it or not, over 10 up to now.

The one we showed in the campaign is just a prototype and we are still working on new versions of it. The Preso device interacts constantly with the PresoApp, which allows you to create a Preso network.

The good thing about an IoT device development is the continuous testing both on the software side and on the hardware performance side.

The Preso evolution is still in an early-stage. Support us during our first Kickstarter campaign to drive it forward!

How was the idea of Preso developed? [VIDEO]

Preso was designed by Attilio starting from an Italian common specific need: the control of the home power consumption while the high-consuming household appliances are on.

Attilio thought how complicated could be for Granny Teresa to tackle this issue and, therefore, proposed his team to develop Preso and its App.

An easy-to-use IoT tool able to control the home energy consumption as well as the monitoring of each connected device.

Preso has become far more than an opportunity: it is an ally for those who crave to convert their house in a “smart” one with little money, according to one’s needs.

As Attilio says, Preso is a hackable open device and can be improved or enhanced starting from the original version developed by the Like A Coffee team.
